TARAWERA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS VISIT TOPP1 POWER PLANT

Last week a group of local Tarawera Highschool students came to our Parimahana Office Complex and TOPP1 Power Plant for a site visit.  The visit was intended to inspire the students with ideas about the types of career and employment opportunities available locally, in particular Kawerau. At least half of the students who attended are beneficiaries of the Ngati Tuwharetoa (BOP) Settlement Trust.

Members of the Geothermal Team described the process of how geothermal steam is produced underground, the necessary components required to make that happen and why this process occurs specifically Kawerau. The students also learnt about the difference between Geothermal and Clean steam, steam supply to our customers, how power is generated at TOPP1, and were informed of the necessary training and educational requirements for anyone wanting to work in the field as a Geothermal Technician. They were reminded however, that many trades work within the industry and that the opportunity to be part of that is right on their doorstep.

This korero was followed up by a site tour to Well KA35, Separator Plant SP19 and TOPP1 Power Plant.
