The Ngati Tuwharetoa (BOP) Settlement Trust Trustees and our Commercial Directors wish to advise that we have purchased the previously Norske Skog Tasman owned TOPP1 geothermal power plant.

Our geothermal steam business (Ngati Tuwharetoa Geothermal Assets Limited, NTGA) already supplies all the geothermal steam to TOPP1 so it was a logical step to purchase the plant and secure the electricity generation revenue.

We have created a subsidiary company of NTGA called Ngati Tuwharetoa Electricity Limited (NTEL), which will own TOPP1.   TOPP1 is a 23 megawatt Ormat plant (enough power for approximately 20,000 homes) and is located within the Norske Skog mill site on the Eastern Bank of the Tarawera River.

We will host an open day for beneficiaries in the New Year to mark this exciting purchase which will give you the opportunity to view the plant.
